Mr. Karr joined the Firm in September 1999. Mr. Karr's practice focuses on residential and commercial real estate, church finance, oil and gas law, and commercial transactions.
Born and raised in Amarillo, Mr. Karr received his B.B.A. in Finance from Texas Tech University in 1995. In 1998, Mr. Karr received his Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Jurisprudence from Texas Tech University. While in law school, Mr. Karr interned for Justice Carlton Dodson in the Court of Appeals for the Seventh District of Texas in Amarillo.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Karr practiced in Texarkana, Arkansas, focusing primarily on oil and gas law and real estate. Mr. Karr's work included examining title to mineral rights and preparing drilling opinions, oil and gas litigation, real estate litigation, and appellate work. Mr. Karr also served as co-author and co-editor of the Arkansas Leasing Manual with one of Arkansas's pre-eminent oil and gas attorneys.
Since joining the firm, Mr. Karr's practice has primarily focused on real estate matters. Mr. Karr has handled numerous loan negotiations, loan origination documentation, acquisition and disposition of residential, commercial, and agriculture properties, foreclosures, and issues arising from the ownership of residential and commercial properties. His clients have included banks, mortgage brokers, private lenders, residential and commercial developers, private homeowners and buyers, farmers, ranchers, mineral owners, and oil producers.
Mr. Karr has also worked extensively in the area of church finance. That work has included extensive document preparation for traditional interim and permanent financing (including loan agreements, promissory notes, mortgages, deeds of trust, and security agreements), document preparation for securing collateral for church bond offerings made pursuant to Section 3(a)(4) of the Federal Securities Act of 1933 as amended (including trust indentures, mortgages, deeds of trust, and security agreements), and review of offering circulars for church bonds.
Mr. Karr is licensed in both Texas and Arkansas, and is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Arkansas Bar Association, Texas Young Lawyers Association, Arkansas Young Lawyers Association, Amarillo Bar Association, Amarillo Area Young Lawyers Association, and Leadership Amarillo and Canyon.
