Gerald G. Morgan, Jr.

Partner

Mr. Morgan has been a partner in the Firm since its inception in 1985. Mr. Morgan became a partner in a predecessor firm, Thomas & Burdett, in 1983. Mr. Morgan is originally from Corning, Arkansas and graduated summa cum laude from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas in 1977 with a B.S. degree in accounting. Mr. Morgan graduated from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 1980. Mr. Morgan was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1980, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas in 1986, the United States Tax Court in 1989 and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in 1994. Mr. Morgan is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell Law Directory, the highest rating assigned by that prestigious publication.

Mr. Morgan's practice emphasizes estate planning and probate, real estate law, and business and commercial law. Mr. Morgan has been Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Estate Planning and Probate since 1989. Mr. Morgan represents a broad range of estate planning clients, many of which require a variety of planning devices including sophisticated estate planning techniques to plan for a myriad of business, family, and tax issues.

Mr. Morgan also serves as General Counsel to Church Loans & Investments Trust ("Church Loans"), a real estate investment trust (REIT) that primarily makes mortgage loans to churches and other non-profit entities. Church Loans was one of the first real estate investments trust formed in Texas.

Mr. Morgan's accounting background and familiarity with tax issues faced by businesses provide Burdett, Morgan, Williamson & Boykin with an outstanding resource for the firm's clients and attorneys.

The balance of Mr. Morgan's practice is involved with assisting his clients in real estate and business matters, including business sales and acquisitions, business negotiations, real estate sales and acquisitions, and the structuring and drafting of various business and commercial agreements.

Mr. Morgan also serves in a variety of community and civic capacities. Mr. Morgan is a member of the Board of Trustees of Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, the Amarillo Area Estate Planning Council, the Amarillo Bar Association as well as a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. Mr. Morgan is also very active in his local church and provides advice and counsel to several charities and foundations
